Lecture No.5: "Research about Seiko Fujita" (1st term)

"Research about Seiko Fujita" (summary)

Lecturer: Yuji Yamada

Seiko Fujita was an outstanding person, who named himself the fourteenth headmaster of Koka school ninjutsu. In his biography "Doronron", we can find various episodes from his childhood on. Once we compare them with newspaper articles on him at that time though, we are able to see that some parts of his stories are quite exaggerated. For example, he wrote that he was born in Asakusa and ran away from home to stay with a Yamabushi for 100 days. However, some articles say that he was born in Izu-Oshima and that he heard the stories of En no Gyojya from his grandmother and got interested in their Shugyo. Additionally, he wrote that he tried his strength against a Russian, named Kentel with superhuman strength and won. Articles from that time state though that he was stimulated and began to stick a needle into his face.

He performed Nikushin-Kanshin-Jyutsu, Nettou Jyutsu and so on as the chairman of the Shureitanshinkai and offered to treat disease. Since 1924, he began to demonstrate those things as "Ninjutsu". In his book, he says that he learned the technics from his grandfather, in order to endure any kinds of pain as ninja and read lots of books about ninjutsu. Because of his efforts and great mental power, he could master many kinds of martial arts. He was also quite successful in demonstrating his technique at police stations etc. and teaching martial arts at Rikugun Nakano Gakko (Military Army Nakano School).
